A 10-year-old boy from Indiana is learning important life lessons from his grandfather while helping make the holidays more merry for some kids who are less fortunate. Zander Hite’s grandpa, Darl, gave him $20 last year and told him to “make a difference with it.” So the boy bought two slabs of wood, to build toy cars with.
Grandpa Darl is a woodworker, so he taught him the skills he needed to make them. The two of them spent months in the woodshop, crafting cars and making memories. And the result of all those hours of creating is 250 wooden cars that Zander’s donating to a wooden toy drive Grandpa Darl’s Central Indiana Woodworkers club does annually.
The boy and his grandfather solidified their bond while working on the toys and the fact that someone else will get joy out of their experience just makes it that much better. “We laugh a lot. We have fun,” Zander says of working with Grandpa Darl. “I like spending time with him.” Now let’s see what this kid does with his next $20 gift.
